Steven Engen

Managing Director

Steve brings over 20 years of senior executive level operating and transaction experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with world-class expertise in Japanese/Asian markets. He joined Locust Walk Partners team in early 2014, where he leads partnering and transaction initiatives with companies in Japan and Asia.

Prior to joining Locust Walk, Steve headed the Japanese operations of Shire Pharmaceuticals. In this capacity, he oversaw the integration of the rare disease and specialty pharma business units, and the filing of the first two Japanese NDAs for Shire’s Japan business. Before Shire, Steve served as CEO of Solasia Pharma KK, a cancer-focused development stage company. Raising over $40MM in venture capital, he built a portfolio of novel cancer drugs and established operations in Japan and China. Steve launched his biopharma career at Purdue Pharma in business development, and then held the position of President of Purdue’s Japanese subsidiary for nine years. In this role, he oversaw the development and commercialization of the company’s leading pain management franchise.

Steve graduated from the University of Utah, majoring in Economics and Finance with minors in Russian, French, and Japanese, and holds an MBA from Temple University. Steve is fluent in written and spoken Japanese. Steve and his wife and two daughters live in Tokyo. He’s a sports enthusiast and particularly enjoys early morning runs through the streets of Tokyo.

He is a FINRA registered representative and holds his Series 79 and 63 licenses.
